You may recall from previous newsletters that I am currently participating in and helping to teach an 8 session series of financial education for real estate investors. While not a planned topic of any of the sessions, Artificial Intelligence, and strong aversion to it, has been a hot topic during the discussion portions of these meetings. I have also been hearing murmurs and concerns in multitudes of other conversations.
The primary concern seems to be that AI will put massive portions of our population out of work, leading to tenants being unable to pay rent, making real estate values crash, and causing many facets of economic disaster.
I have shared my thoughts that I believe these concerns echo the same fears expressed during every wave of technological innovation, from the industrial revolution to personal computers in the workplace. Essentially, I believe that AI is and will continue to revolutionize work around the world. However, I am not at all concerned about it putting everyone out of work and taking all of our jobs.
I think that it is changing the nature of work, as historical innovations have done in the past. I strongly believe that the work that will be done in the future has not even been imagined yet.
It is important to have data to back up my arguments, so I set out to prove my position. I unironically used AI to help me find the evidence, and then I created a whole webpage for your viewing pleasure and reassurance. There is a 24-page downloadable PDF report with works cited so that you can verify for yourself. And for those who don’t want to read the report, I have a podcast-style audio overview for you.
